7 is a lucky number for some, and after a much celebrated journey these beautiful 7 met tough ends of the road, often better than me mind you 😂
Skateboarding has been a huge part of my life since I followed my big bro @davidflett into the scene and it swiftly became more than a hobby, it was to me (and still is) a huge culture to be a part of full of art, fashion, photo and filmography, and inspiration.
Through skateboarding I made friends, shared stories and crossed paths with amazing people. Injuries stayed closed to me with a shattered ankle, torn ligaments and ripped tendons across my foot, broken fingers, concussion and abundance of shin digs, sprained ankles and bruises that kept me in check.
For a while I was split between skateboarding and music, which was eventually decided by injury 😂 being sponsored, albeit on a small scale, was an amazingly exciting thing for me, pushing me to push myself more, and that mindset has stuck with me across all aspects to this day.
To throw yourself down a stair set time and time again, feel the fear in the run up, the doubt in your ability vs the confidence from the rush and drive to land, the pain of failing over and over again and frustration, the thrill of landing but loss of the wrong balanced grounding, the patience and stamina to keep going and going and trust that you will roll away, and when you finally do, feeling on top of the world. That, is the biggest sense of achievement.
The endorphins that follow numb any pain at the time or later when you look back on memories or footage. Anyone out on that skate shares the journey, feels the hits and shares the victory. And each victory opens a new challenge. I’ve learned to dream big but also to know to work towards those dreams.
