Black lives matter

Racism is inexplicably and absolutely unacceptable.
It shouldn’t have to be said in this day and age, but it does.

Black lives matter.
It shouldn’t have to be said in this day and age, but it does.

Punishing innocence is wrong.
Deceitful lies at the expense of lives can and should never be allowed to happen.
Human beings should not be treated as anything other than fellow human beings.
A human should never dehumanise another human, regardless of skin or background.
Business and individuals shouldn’t be allowed to profit from mistreatment, unlawful enforcement and the shattering of lives and families.
Someone like Donald Trump should not be leading a country.

It shouldn’t have to be said in this day and age, but it does.

I usually avoid political posts, but to be silent would be the wrong thing to do. The ongoing and agonising suffering of innocent people is very clear to see, the injustice, brutality, countless shocking accounts of atrocity. It’s not acceptable, it never should have been, and it never should be again.

This year has opened many of our eyes to new dangers and issues, but the discrimination, imbalance and pain between different groups, races, nations, has been ongoing for much longer. It’s been allowed to happen and is being increasingly exposed now. The historic police treatment against black people in USA is disgraceful, and the problem stretches globally; indigenous Australians, ‘cheap’ Chinese labour, asylum seekers, all being treated as a different class of human being. That’s simply not ok, in any shape or form. If we don’t call out those that promote inequality to this horrendous level, our silence is submission, which isn’t good enough.

One concerning aspect to me personally is that the majority of America voted for Trump. His racism was (and remains) in no way blanketed. We’re tackling a huge problem which is deeply embedded in a mirage of false information, corruption, and business. No one is born racist, nor should they ever be.

I wish I had more stretch than my words, but it’s a start. Flume posted the importance of watching 13th on Netflix looking into the hard truths behind US authorities and business historically and currently exploiting black people, and it’s shocking. Go and watch it if you haven’t already. I’ve also linked a VOX article on Trump at http://trump.flett.co which sequentially lists his racist and bigot quotes and actions (thanks Seaarne for sharing). The similarities here in UK are uncanny with an abundance of false information/promises with an unsettling undertone of racism achieving votes.

We don’t have all of the information, I doubt many (any) of us here could be regarded as experts on human and civil rights, European or foreign policies, or have a quick and easy answer to any of the world’s issues for everyone. But it’s easy to see a clear problem here that needs addressing. USA has had a terrible history of injustice and corruption. We have a pretty horrendous history in Britain too, we can’t forget that. What we can do is to chose who we vote for, who we listen to, and what we consume. Our next generation shouldn’t have to say that black lives mater, because it shouldn’t have to be said in this day and age - there shouldn’t be any injustice or segregation of human rights and opportunities. But sadly, it does need to be said today.
